I’ve seen lots of European press refer to this as the mother of all trade deals. What makes it so special? Is it just the Europe took away a country once thought to be a future ally of America? Or that it’s bailing out Europe by giving them easy access to Indian consumers?

>I’ve seen lots of European press refer to this as the mother of all trade deals. What makes it so special?

EU MSM press is mostly a mouthpiece of Brussels that not always reflects the views and opinions of EU citizens, so take such grandiose claims with a piece of salt.

> Is it just the Europe took away a country once thought to be a future ally of America?

India isn't being taken away, they'll still keep trading with the US. India trades with everyone, if it benefits them. That's why they busy russian oil and then the EU buys it from them as laundered Indian oil. India does what's best for them regardless if the EU or US don't like it.

> Or that it’s bailing out Europe by giving them easy access to Indian consumers?

I doubt it's that. My Indian friends said this won't benefits the EU economy very much since the Indian consumer market is still much poorer compared to western countries so they still won't have money to splurge on European cars, cheese and wine.

I think the EU is just desperate at his point and grasping at any opportunity to increase trade even by fractions of a percent due to its stagnating economy and massive expenditure with the war in Ukraine that it will sign any trade deals.
