"The snapshot archive is a wayback machine that allows access to old packages based on dates and version numbers. It consists of all past and current packages the Debian archive provides."

For example, when you have been fucked by new versions of an nvidia driver, this is where to look. (535.247.01-1 ftw)

Imustaskforhelp•1w ago
Interesting, is this project something recent as to something which deserved a new HN post

or is this project somewhat old and you just wanted to share it

Because I respect both but I am unable to find when the project was created. Overall, I find it really cool. Does alpine have something similar to it too?

pabs3•1w ago
As an official service it has been around since 2010, and before that it was around as snapshot.debian.net in 2005, and the data was carried over into snapshot.debian.org.

Oh thank you for your response!

Now it may be a little offtopic but now I am interested about the debian.net -> debian.org transition. Do you have any info about it if I may ask?

Edit: Just saw your profile and you mention that you have worked on Debian project! Thank you for your contribution!

pabs3•1w ago
debian.net is a domain for experimental services not run by the core Debian sysadmins on the computers they manage, usually by other Debian members and associated folks. My memory is telling me there was some sort of disruption to the debian.net service, and then Peter Palfrader of the Debian sysadmin team took on the project of converting it to an official service. You may be able to find some more info in old lists.debian.org mailing list archives.

reads like AI slop

This fucking consistent "does this deserve a post" whinging and whining and moaning is really off-putting.

Imustaskforhelp•1w ago
bro I am human what do you want me to say and stop saying that my post reads like AI

I won't change how I write just because of osmething you write. but I honestly get pissed hard when someone says that my comment sounds like AI slop because man if that's the comment you want to give? then I guess the incentive for me is to stop writing comments.

You can go and read my comments, I just don't know what to say man to ya right now but I am sad :<

Imustaskforhelp•1w ago
I really just wanted to know if this was something recent as to why someone posted it or something recent happened or osomethng.

really makes me question my writing style so thanks for giving me doubt, but I don't know, its how I write, I usually just type whatever I am thinking & I don't wish to change just because people comment it reads like AI slop.

Quite frankly, before accusing someone, read their previous comments if you are so worried.

But like, I hate this when people say some comments sound like AI slop because man I wish to be part of this community but such comments like yours just hurt the spirit at this point I don't even know like what you want me to do??
