Pip is no longer in the top packages downloaded from PyPI

You can also check individual packages on pypistats, e.g.: https://pypistats.org/packages/pip

I don't know exactly when it dropped off the top 20, although of course relative downloads vary day to day. Looking at monthly data, though, there's now a fairly substantial gap between pip and Pydantic (in the monthly #20 spot at time of posting).

Pip 26.0 was just released, so the daily chart shows a recent spike, but not enough to re-enter the top 20.

Hopefully this also reflects people improving their CI setups generally, and not just the migration to uv. The huge number of setuptools downloads doesn't seem like a good sign, though.

uv still only gets a fraction of pip's downloads from PyPI, but that's misleading given that it can easily be obtained in other ways (and getting it from PyPI probably only makes sense if you don't already have it, but do have pip, perhaps indirectly via Pipx).
