I don’t know about the Japanese political landscape enough to say much about this, but I do know that cost of living is crushing people here.

Takaichi is very popular but is a right wing politician. From my reading of history, right wing populism is .. popular, in times of crises, but tends to make things worse in the long run.

However Japanese society and politics are atypical enough not to fit neatly into left/right categories.
