Hi HN — I built Bob, an open-source AI personal agent that runs on your machine. It started as an experiment to see how far you could push an autonomous agent, it has 170+ tools across 35 skill modules.
It handles calendar, contacts, expenses, invoices, email (Gmail), marketplace management (eBay/Etsy), smart home (Home Assistant), voice messages (Whisper + edge-tts), browser automation, background tasks, phone calls (Twilio), and agent-to-agent communication.
The security angle matters to me — tools like OpenClaw have open skill marketplaces where anyone can publish code that runs on your machine. Bob takes the opposite approach: all tools are vetted first-party code, credentials are protected, data stays local, and external agent access is sandboxed with trust tiers and rate limits.
Works with Gemini (free), OpenAI, or Anthropic. TypeScript, Node.js 22+, no heavy frameworks. Setup takes about 5 minutes.
Would love feedback on the architecture and what tools people would want to see added.
