Author here. This piece was inspired by the Costly State Verification concept in economics and what we're seeing with IoT sensors in manufacturing.

It argues that Watermelon status reports (green outside, red inside) aren't moral failures, but economic ones.

Curious to hear if others are seeing this Decoupling collapse in other industries.
