Show HN: Sargam Notebook – an interactive notebook for Indian classical music

Hi HN,

I built Sargam Notebook (https://sargam.speede.site ), an interactive music notebook for writing and playing Indian classical (Hindustani) music.

The idea was to make something like an ipynb, but for raags — where you can:

Write structured raag notes (Aroha, Avroha, taans, gat, etc.)

Notate sargam with simple text syntax

Play it back in a timed taal (e.g., Teentaal)

Visually follow the notes as they play

It’s designed for students and performers who currently juggle handwritten notebooks, PDFs, and audio recordings. I wanted something programmable, readable, and playable in one place.

You can try it instantly (no signup required):

Brindavani Sarang: https://sargam.speede.site/?fileId=1e674W-x-tABg3cQkZs0Wt9AX...

Raag Khamaj: https://sargam.speede.site/?fileId=11rB3kLkS9DmlpqtBPIZblqve...

It’s still early and rough around the edges, but fully usable. I’d especially appreciate feedback on:

Notation design (is the syntax intuitive?)

Playback UX

How this could be useful beyond Indian classical

Happy to answer any technical or music-related questions.
