Some conservative idealists with huge chips on their shoulders whining behind a thin vein of supposed academic integrity. Whatever. You can tell that the author has a preconceived idea in mind, a hypothesis they wanted to test, and they did what sounds like the bare minimum to confirm their suspicions. This is pseudointellectualism at its best.

because I think literally everyone pretended to hold some view (more progressive, more conservative, whatever) to succeed socially or academically at least once. it would be news if it was happening regularly
