My knowledge of the Duolingo app is probably over a decade out-of-date at this point so take this critique with a grain of salt.

I’ve always thought that the question (at least in terms of financial success) of how useful Duolingo is from an educational standpoint is missing the point.

Duolingo isn’t really selling to people who genuinely want to learn a language, Duolingo is selling to people who like the idea of learning a language.
