Show HN: Tastebuds AI – recipe generator with USDA-backed nutrition data

https://www.tastebudsai.com
1•marcosinghof•2h ago
I built this because I wanted a clean recipe browsing experience without ads, life stories, or SEO bloat. However, I still needed accurate nutrition info. Tastebuds AI calculates nutrition by mapping every ingredient to the USDA Food Data Central database, so the numbers are actually trustworthy. You tell it your dietary restrictions, cuisine style (healthy, easy, adventurous, etc.), ingredients you dislike, and what kitchen equipment you have. It then generates ideas and subsequently a full recipe with ingredients, step-by-step instructions, an AI-generated image, and an accurate macro breakdown. The app is still fresh so I can pivot in any direction — would love feedback, especially from people tracking macros or managing dietary restrictions where accuracy matters.

The USDA is no longer a trustworthy source for information

Is there a database that you would suggest using instead?
