What: Anima is an open-source app that runs AI coding agents in a continuous autonomous loop — sense → think → act → sleep → wake — so your projects make progress while you're away.
Why I built this: Vibe coding is exciting, but let's be honest — right now it's mostly "vibe" and not much "engineering." You sit in front of Claude Code for hours, babysitting every step, giving feedback, battling back and forth. The agent is doing the work, but you can't leave. That's not productivity — that's a new form of being stuck.
I wanted to shift from vibe coding to vibe engineering: define the vision, break it into milestones, and let the agent autonomously plan and execute. My ideal workflow is spending 1-2 hours a day on high-level planning and final review, then walking away while Anima drives the rest.
How it works: Each project gets a "Soul" — a heartbeat-driven loop. It senses project state, decides what to do next, dispatches AI agents (currently Claude Code) to execute, and sleeps until the next trigger. It pauses at key checkpoints for human review — accept, request changes, or roll back.
Current status: Open-source (Apache-2.0), macOS & Windows. Early stage, rough edges expected. Anima is increasingly building itself — eating its own dog food.
