I find the plots in this page very encouraging. Some highlights:
- about 88% of our co2 emissions are due to fossil fuel use. (personally encouraging because I expect fossil fuel use to decrease in the long-term)
- per-capita co2 emissions are falling for the developed world. The world's emissions are dominated by presently-industrializing countries like China and India. Again personally encouraging, because I think batteries + renewable + nuclear will eventually allow them to pivot away from fossil fuels. Just like many countries skipped over land-line telephones, I expect future industrializing countries can skip over (or reduce) the high-fossil-fuel consumption phase
