I built a small Mac and iOS app because I kept running into the same problem with note apps: most of the things I write down are temporary thoughts.
They’re usually:
- random ideas
- things I might explore later
- reminders that may or may not matter
But most note apps treat every note like something you should organize and keep forever. Over time this creates a huge pile of notes that I rarely revisit.
Jotio experiments with a different model: notes automatically filter themselves over time.
Basic idea:
- quickly capture a thought from anywhere
- it goes into an inbox
- during review you regularly revisit what you captured
- notes you ignore eventually archive themselves (and optionally auto-delete after some time you configure), visually fading so you can immediately see which ones you have not visited for some time
So the ideas that keep pulling your attention stay visible while the rest disappears without manual cleanup.
The main experience is currently on Mac with a global input window for quick capture.
Curious if this mental model resonates with others here or if I’m solving a niche problem.
I’d really appreciate any feedback.
