Is launching a product on here a thing

Just curious what the norm is here with sharing product launches. Obviously don't want a ton of people spamming this for product launches but just curious what thoughts are

Read those. If you're just using the site for self-promotion you are likely to get shadowbanned. HN is meant to be a community, self-promotion is allowed but should not be your primary (and definitely not exclusive) use of the site. It'll likely get flagged and eventually caught by the moderators.

It's called "ShowHN" and is located at the top of the page. Here's the rules:

For Show HN there is an expectation that you talk about technology more than how it will change our lives.

appreciate you!

It says "Show HN is for something you've made that other people can play with." so it's not really an invitation to post for-profit product launch ads. Most Show HN projects that gain traction are personal projects.

In fact, the tips page (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22336638) that's linked from the Show HN guidelines directly says "Drop any language that sounds like marketing or sales. On HN, that is an instant turnoff. Use factual, direct language. Personal stories and technical details are great.

Unless it's egregiously inappropriate for HN, you can probably post once or twice and people will be fine with it. You might have slightly better luck if you submit it as a Show HN; someone else has already posted the appropriate guidelines.

Don't be disappointed if it doesn't get much attention; most project launches in /new don't get much attention, much less make it to the front page.
