I would think "wild west" is more appropriate in terms of bandits and sheriffs. Like, in terms of the security for global shipping & trade.

I see your point, but I can't resist a bit of pedantry here.

Since the phrase "the wild west" originally referred to the level of development rather than lawlessness (the modern idea of "the wild west" never actually existed), the usage of the phrase here may be more appropriate than it seems.

"Wild West" for the shipping magnates usually means "Higher Prices" for the rest of us. It’s wild how a conflict thousands of miles away can dictate why a random consumer electronic or a bag of coffee costs 15% more at a local store three months later. The fragility of the "Just-in-Time" global supply chain has never been more obvious.
