"Systemd" Aternatives

4•qtabq•1h ago
in the light of latest buzz of "age verification" noise, this triggers an old itch - systemd

systemd in this case being more of a symbol of centralization that becomes a question of not IF but WHEN some lunatics/extremists and similar terrorist entities like CA, Brazil, North Korea, China, etc will pull the rug and pretend to protect children from Epstein clients, leaving out question like parents involvement in their education and that state or government in general has no business getting in the middle of a family unit, unless obviously their hand gets forced by a dark agenda or a commercial entity like Facebook

The questions is: systemd and similar tech sneaked under the skin and made things convenient, not even easy or clean, but convenient. This could be a good moment to reflect and pull the rug on the reverse action for these tech stacks.

AI based searches still give less info than this page nosystemd.org, this page is kind of old-ish but has good standing with the right intent

What is your thinking ? How would you approach this ?

Myself I'm on arch linux since forever as user. I adopt what they suggest at this point mostly blindly as I have this distro as the gold standard to enable engineering, disruption and innovation. It just works without fuss. The systemd stunt that someone is trying to pull off (whoever it is from whatever level and whatever strings they are trying to pull) - is a bad idea, it needs to be preempted, shut close and welded forever.

I can't drop the distro, need to re-evaluate who is doing what these days - from boot, to init, to env, etc

What is your take, how would you gradually swap-out your work horse and flows to what alternatives or maybe combo of alternatives - that offer the same friction free engineering environment.

I probably spend more than my salary on Claude
