When you found that out, would immediately fire the contractor, alert IT staff to check for other changes, and consult lawyers about next-steps.
It does not matter that they had some permission to touch objects in the room, or that the final result was innocuous, or even if a sentence in the contract talked about "enhancing phone experiences." Someone who would pull that kind of stunt is someone who is going to be banned from the premises and will never get a positive referral.
