If you read Reddit this issue has circled back on itself a dozen times between being a poorly vetted video vs a highly orchestrated marketing tactic to get virality.
In my experience with the company, if MCD is still trying to deal with it now it's damage control. Knowing them, this response was focus grouped for a month.
