I feel like cameras and ALPRs would be a lot more effective. I doubt most people can remember the details of an amber alert, and many simply disable it because of alerts that go off in the middle of the night and other issues. Still, 1 in 4 amber alerts playing a role in recovery is higher than expected. I wonder if that is exaggerated in some way, but this article frames it as less effective than expected.
Regardless, Canada not allowing the alerts to be disabled is ridiculous. No one should be forcefully opted into 90 decibel ear-damaging alarms in the middle of the night. We’re trading the health and sanity of everyone for a few.
