I like my old kindle for the same reason I like using Linux and the command line as much as I can- to minimize distracting bullshit. Amazon wants all their devices to be data harvesters as much as subscription and purchase vectors.

Though I have to admit, my old kindle is more museum than anything these days, with a lot of books I go back to just to re-read sections I like. Learned quite a while ago there are ebook ecosystems outside of Amazon and minimalist readers which can use them.
