I built this because I like writing by hand, but almost never had a reason to actually do it in 2026. All my pens were just sitting there doing nothing. I also got tired of bots, and I realized on apps like reddit, I could be talking to a child about geopolitics and would not be able to distinguish between the two.
I also thought it would be nice to exchange letters even with family/friends and not necessarily need to know their physical addresses. The letters can arrive in their email inboxes or be shared with a link.
Common reactions:
“Why not just text?”
“This feels like more effort”
“Cool idea but I don’t see when I’d use it”
"Handwriting is too personal to share"
"I already send mail through the post office"
I also discovered something unexpected: Even handwriting enthusiasts (like fountain pen users) don’t necessarily want to share publicly. They treat writing as something private or personal, and some take personal offense to the idea of my app.
Right now I’m trying to figure out if this is: a weak use case bad positioning or too many features not focused enough I’m considering cutting it down to a much more specific use case (e.g. private writing, or only high-signal messages).
Curious how others would think about this: When would you actually use something like this (if ever)? What would make it feel necessary instead of optional?
