Liberal governments pushed for this, like the UK. This is because they want to be able to arrest people for posting offensive comments, which is already happening, but this will make it easier.

People like me were warning about this for the last couple of years, but because it involved comments and opinions many people didn't like, they were fine with having these people arrested. Now that it's going to potentially involve their freedom of speech, they are up in arms.

I suppose there is a lesson to be learned here.
