I built Onyx Pro because short AI IDE trials were not enough for a real evaluation.
Most of the time, you are not testing these tools in a clean sandbox. You are trying them while working through an actual codebase, switching contexts, and deciding whether the IDE really fits your workflow. By the time the trial ends, that decision can still feel underinformed.
Onyx Pro is a local desktop utility for that second pass. It helps developers reset trial-related state in supported AI IDEs so they can re-test them on the same machine and compare tools more carefully before committing to a subscription.
A few things I wanted to keep true about it:
- it runs locally
- your code stays on your machine
- it uses a one-time payment model
- Onyx Pro itself has a free trial
I am posting here mainly for feedback on the product and framing. I would be especially interested in thoughts on whether this feels like a legitimate developer evaluation tool, and what questions or concerns you would want addressed up front.
