Ask HN: Will fixed applications become a thing of the past with agentic AI?

4•ex-aws-dude•1h ago
Right now its mostly technical people using these agentic tools but if you extrapolate a few years into the future it seems likely to me that every day users of a computer will be using some user-friendly version as a whole new interface to interact with their computer or phone.

Do you think the whole idea of fixed applications may change in this coming era? Like the idea of rigid applications becomes much more fluid.

For example

* In the past you might use a batch-rename tool to rename a bunch of files but now the agent could just generate a python script on the fly and do that for you

* Instead of installing extensions what if an app just had a prompt box to generate new features for itself on the fly.

* Imagine if instead of reporting bugs a user can just enter into a prompt box the bug and the bug just gets fixed

* Would everyone and their mom have their own hyper-specific local applications?

* Would there be a marketplace where non-technical people share the app's they've created?

How do you think this whole thing shapes up in the next 5 years?
