Maybe the focus here is on the wrong side of the equation.

What is happening with AI is capitalistic extremism.

The overall value proposition could easily be self defeating and self destructive.

*If* AI succeeds in eliminating large numbers of white collar jobs and effectively destroys a huge chunk of the consumer base, who will buy all the products and services produced with AI?

In other words, we're spending huge piles of borrowed money on the stated effort to produce a less prosperous society. The end result could easily be a shrunken economy with less for everyone --- including the rich --- including the AI vendors.

A common quote often attributed to Stalin, Lenin or Marx is something like, "Capitalists will sell the rope to be used to hang them". With AI it is even worse --- we are effectively borrowing tons of money in order to *build* the rope.
