Technologies that people don't understand must be put beyond use. We would be vastly better off without them than trying to use them while denying their consequences and implications. All of the wars and revolutions of the long 19th and 20th Centuries were down to denial of the implications and consequences of the steam engine. How can anyone today have the sheer face to look back upon that and say it was worth it?
