I always loved Arkanoid and I think it fantastic for teaching game. It is simple yet more engaging than snakes. Moreover as long as you stay away from the original "Breakout" colors and sounds and the "break out of jail" theme it is easy to avoid a lot of the legal trouble you inevitably run into when tackling Tetris.
