I spent 100 hours building a website you will use for 20 minutes a week

WHY I BUILT THIS

I observed that even though I frequently use digital platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and YouTube, their media consumption is temporary.

I also noticed that media fragments do not contribute to the retention of meaningful ideas. In order to achieve a high level of engagement, modern technology compromises the retention of meaningful ideas.

This led me to contemplate the possibility of redesigning digital spaces to focus on the retention of ideas instead of the retention of attention.

That realization ultimately led me to found The Dailicle as a response to modern digital media usage.

The Dailicle removes the infinite scroll and instead offers a single, complete essay every week.

The goal is to create a platform that improves engagement with meaningful ideas and encourages a more deliberate way of consuming digital content.

THE PHILOSOPHY

The Dailicle is built around intentionally provocative structural minimalism.

Algorithms that distract users by constantly curating new content are completely avoided. Endless scrolling and other engagement loops are absent. The site also avoids features designed to keep users trapped on the page.

Instead, it offers one singular reading experience. Each essay is thoroughly researched and focused on an important topic.

When readers finish an essay, they are encouraged to close the tab and return the following week.

The objective is to communicate one significant idea well instead of presenting many smaller, less meaningful ones.

WHAT BUILDING IT TAUGHT ME

Building The Dailicle taught me that creating meaningful long-form content is harder than creating short, quick content.

The common belief that short-form content is easier to create has not matched my experience. Producing one thoughtful essay each week requires a long cycle of research, writing, revision, and refinement.

Working through that process has shown me how demanding meaningful content creation can be, while also revealing opportunities to explore ideas more deeply.

There are still several questions I'm trying to answer.

Am I ready to publish a new essay every week?

Should every essay include citations so readers can verify the sources?

Would an audio version make the essays more useful?

How do I ensure long-form content gets read in an era dominated by short attention spans?

I'd appreciate feedback on these questions.

More broadly, I'm curious what others think.

Is there still room on the internet for slow, thoughtful content creation alongside the constant stream of fast, surface-level content?
