Personally, I haven’t bought a physical game in maybe a decade. Digital is so much easier. No swapping out discs. The fear of games vanishing isn’t unfounded but overstated.
Used game stores have long ripped off gamers and cut into Sony’s profits. Get rid of the resale aspect and you’ll likely see sales increase.
That being said: I wanted to play Left 4 Dead on my Series X the other day and it’s not available for purchase on the Xbox store. You need a physical version. Which I luckily have.
If Sony, Microsoft etc want to promote digital sales over physical, they need to sort out the licensing. I don’t know of any issues like these with Steam sales. You buy it, you own it. Period.
