I hope they put a better connector than TB5 so we can cluster them properly at 1TB/S
chao-•15h ago
I started writing a sarcastic comment to "prepare for $500 Apple-branded QSFP112 DAC cables", but realized (a) that's not too much higher than some already sell for, and (b) it's close to a linear scaling from TB5 price-per-bandwidth (not exactly, but close).

So I guess someone wanting that would be prepared for it.

theplumber•13h ago
i don’t think a 1TB/S connector would be too expensive at $1000

You can buy TB cables with a little screw above it. All you need to do then is drill a hole in the case and tap it. You can 3D print a template to make sure you center the hole correctly.

the speed at which the cost margins ate into Apple's profit is the reason. They can't remain the dandy of the nouveau riche if they can't justify the price points in the same atmosphere of PCs and Androids.

This is a marketing cost play, nothing else. They're happy to raise their prices on their existing plays and wait out the ram cartel.

It might work, depending on the regulators appetite for breaking the monopolies and the AI circular fraud.
