Apple should let us schedule work-hours notifications for specific apps

3•hellowastaken•14h ago
Focus just doesn't cut it. I don't want Jira, Teams, Outlook, Slack, etc. sending me notifications after I've signed off of work, or if its the weekend. I find myself turning of Teams notifications on my iPhone over the weekend, and forgetting to turn it on during work hours. Apple should introduce a feature that schedules work-hours notifications, so you decide what times Teams notifications should be sent to you and during what day of the week. Shouldn't be fixed to 8h, some of us might want it to be turned on between 08:00-10:00 on a Wednesday only. Thoughts?

Sounds like an excellent idea and I would love to see this in Android as well. Easy way just general for all apps and for more advanced users would really be nice to do it for each app individually.

Android Work Profiles does this, although the digital wellbeing controls apply to all apps within each work profile rather than letting them being set individually for each app.

I'm going to take the opposite position that "focus mode" and other attempts that iOS makes to filter notifications are part of the problem and not part of the solution.

I was sick and tired of having notifications from the 2-factor auth program at worth not appearing or appearing and then disappearing before i could answer them. Of people calling and the phone never ringing. Of getting texts and never having the text appear, or rather some of the texts would appear on my iPhone and others would appear on my iPad.

Getting to the bottom of why my phone seemed to be possessed by the devil I did quite a few things but when it came to notifications:

(1) disable notifications from an app unless I really need them

(2) delete as many of the focus nodes I could so none of them could be engaged accidentally

(3) make notifications persistent all the time

(4) disable notification grouping

I see the harder the phone tries to filter things the more it loses notifications you want but of course, the way things work in real life, the unwanted notifications will always get through.

Don't put company software on your personal device. If you need to use these the company should provide them. Then with your work device, don't look at it outside of work hours unless you are oncall or senior enough within the business where it's a reasonable expectation.

Focus modes let you silence notifications from certain apps. Wouldn’t a focus mode for when you’re not working, with notifications disabled for those apps, do the trick?

I just disable notifications from these types of apps all together. I can open the app if I care to see what’s going on while away from my desk.
