As a person who uses the internet, I've become so fed up with the non-stop modal windows popping up to ask me to sign up for newsletters, wanting my email addresses for some other thing, asking me to sign up, login with Google, discounts with emotional manipulation, etc. The exit intent ones always pop-up when I move between tabs, which isn't mean leaving the site, it's usually be trying to use it more, but when I get it on every tab... I'm done. People need to stop trying to annoying their users into sticking around or engaging.

When they happen now, I just leave the page. I've noticed repeatedly that my face shifts to a negative expression as these things pop up, and they give me a negative impression of the site. I'm so tired of a pop-up interrupting/ruining an otherwise enjoyable experience.

Modal windows that aren't triggered by explicit user interaction and really made a lot of the internet insufferable. Ironically, this site didn't do that, despite being a product for other sites to make doing that easier.
