I guess it makes sense: it was helping them convert people to Gmail back then ("you can keep your current emails and handle them from Gmail"), but Gmail has been a quasi-monopoly for long enough, they don't need that anymore.

Anyway the thing that keeps coming back with email is that if you don't own your own domain, you're doing it wrong. Took me way too long to realise, but transitioning wasn't actually that bad.

Is there a decent alternative to gmail that works seemlessly on android?

Proton's performance is terrible, as is Outlook, not to mention it's search that just doesn't work.

Unless I've misread it, this will stop people using their own domain on gmail and using an external mail server to send from gmail using their own domain right?
