Never rated them as bikes. Like Halfords, a brand of last resort. Cheap cycles for the masses is a good thing but when it winds up being the one constantly at the side of the road in the rain having a lost loose nut replaced and with Rusty handlebars, that Reynolds 5-3-1 double butted expensive bike looks a lot better as a prospect albeit second hand.

Bicycles, it's strange model where 99% of what's produced won't ever get significant use. Lots here probably have 'junk drawer' full of sbc, esp and the like dev boards, kinda same thing but bicycles, it's even more so.

Very true. Had many bikes, usually broken at time of acquisition. Most rusted out under the house. Went bikeless for a few years then got one driven in need (home work commute in an inner city just too long to be a quick walk, and car use ridiculous) and have kept it in reasonable condition since.
Meantime, down on the riverside, a peleton of recreational Men in Lycra ride cycles where a single carbon fibre wheel would buy my car...
To your point. An sbc I got in a kickstarer died when the Ukrainian devs went into a war. 3 years later somebody has worked out how to attach to boot prom and serial, interrupt boot with a short on the mainboard and get into the locked boot sequence. So hoarding those dead sbc and cables can come good!
