The internet is the same as it's always been. Sending packets of data from here to there. Everything else is abstraction built on top of that. All of the cool stuff is still there it has just moved off the web into other sectors or evolved into new things. I've been online since the Commodore 64 and 300 baud modems, I ran BBSes before the internet and even a bit after. I went through the whole birth of the web and worked for years as a web developer and then general developer. What I can say for sure is that the internet today is way more awesome and I use it 1000x more than I ever did at any previous point. It's more useful and usable than ever. There were some great moments but I think there are even more to come.
