AI Video Taking over YouTube

4•toit4wing•1h ago
I was just casually browsing youtube yesterday and noticed a very interesting video about some robot rabbits being used to capture everglade pythons. Started watching - the narrative was very engaging - done by someone in first person who looked like an experienced wildlife researcher and the story narrated through appropriately placed clips of huge pythons and robot bunnies.

Watched for around 2 mins of the 10 min long clip - and then it suddenly hit me like a rock - the entire video was AI. The narrator, the voice over, the python clips - all of it was generated by AI. And I pride myself on someone who can spot AI from a mile away, but this was shockingly good.

I hit the comments and there it was. Not a single comment reporting this as AI. Showed it to a friend and he couldn't believe it either.

And then today. It happenned again. Entirely different topic - Goldman Sachs abandoning New York because of Mamdani. Deep, engaging, first person narration. But everything was AI, and no one seems to notice in the comments.

What do you guys think ?

The number of AI videos getting recommended to me pushed me to disable my YouTube watch history. This has the side effect of turning off home page recommendations entirely. Now I just watch videos from people I’m subscribed. If they start releasing AI videos, I unsubscribe.

The video is literally marked with "Made with AI" per YouTube's policy.

I hate that this kind of content is so successful, and I think YT could do a lot to lower the algorithmic priority of AI content, but at the end of the day engagement is engagement, and those videos are hugely successful.

People love slop.
