DHH has been acting as a lightning rod for a few years now, but just remember that before him, guys like this were constantly demanding that people be destroyed or excluded based on them holding the wrong political opinion, or perceived not to be taking enough action in pursuit of certain political objectives, or even just outright skin color. Remember, one of the first instances was back in 2013 when they went after and destroyed BritRuby because too many of the speakers were white men.
It's ironic that the vehement hate all comes from allowing more opinion than just the tiniest sliver of allowed political ideology. e.g. Europe should have strong borders and mass migration must end, an opinion held by DHH and now by the majority of all Europeans outside the tiny wealthy bubble of tech of the kind that Dolman belongs to. But asking participants to have an open mind and not compel others to post black squares on Instagram is too much for guys like him, so after their calls to ban DHH fail, they'll expend the enormous effort to try fork Rails instead, all over politics.
That's fine. It's better for everybody.
