It's not about the tools or possibilities for randos to build stuff, it's the scale at which anything AI affects a bunch of other stuff. The stuff you just casually dismiss further on in your post. Use of it doesn't exist in a bubble (pun intended). Millions of jobs erased with no clear replacement? Value of creative work diminshed leading to more opportunities erased? Scale of 'bad' actors abusing the tools and impacting a whole bunch of spheres from information dispersal to creative industries etc. Not even getting into environmental and land-use impacts to spaces with data centers and towns etc (again, it's the scale that gets ya). And for what? Removing a huge chunk of human activity & expression, for what?

Maybe the hate is on the casual dismissal of any value in the craft of a thing. It's not the same as geocities. The people creating geocities spaces weren't then shoving it down everyone's throats as the replacement for everything else. They weren't using it as an example of why AI should be integrated into every space. There's no craft going on here. It devalues even the concept of like showing off a hobby/side-project. And for what?
