So they way it works is that capital will fixate on a particular industry. This causes a ripple where schools will start to push hard for those degrees (90s to mid 2010s it was STEM). While there is an influx of capital, the jobs are cushy, the pay is exorbitant and everyone is told they are the smartest most capable people in history. This is good if you are the right age when capital decides this is the plan, this helps boost the cycle of people pursuing those degrees. Then at some point the mass becomes critical, "everyone" is suddenly an "engineer" or in STEM in some way. At this point, capital has what it wants which are desperate people to exploit because suddenly there isn't the pressure to pay people well and treat them as valued. We're seeing this incubation happen in physical robotics right now as post-AI "CS". Look at the explosion of robotics teams etc in high schools. Ultimately it's net negative for anyone genuinely interested in the field.
