I remember they did 32 x 32TB with 1U design many years ago. That is 1PB in 1U.

Now we are at 20PB in 4U. Or 5PB in 1U.

This is using Solidigm D5-P5336 122TB drive which was announced in 2024. We expect to have 256TB [1] by end of 2026 based on 200 This would put this at 40PB or 10PB per 1U!

These are all based on ~250 layer NAND. SK Hynix intend to ship 375 NAND by end of 2026, with 480 to 600 between 2028 and 2030+. i.e We could see another doubling of capacity by 2030.

In 2020, Backblaze reached 1EB, or 1000PB. What used thousands of PODs, and hundreds of racks. By 2030 it be could be fitted into just 1 Rack. The magic number is 625TB per drive, we will reach 1EB per Rack.
