One wonders how much push-back businesses might get, if they said "don't bother putting any post-2020 college on your resume, we've switched to proctored pencil-and-paper tests of whether you know more than how to prompt an AI".

It's all economics at the end of the day. If you see yourself as having to compete with the entirety of china, india, and wherever else in your classroom so that you can get the 500K starting salary + all benefits vs crushing debt, 45K starting, no health insurance, no chance of home ownership etc, then obviously cheating will be prevalent. Fix the economics of higher-ed and careers, and the academic spirit will return.
