Your component library is not your design system. Neither is your Figma file. They were being used as one because components and design libraries were expensive to make. This is no longer true.

Now it takes seconds for Claude Code, or any AI agent, to regenerate a screen. The artifact is now cheap and disposable, so it needs to stop being a place where thinking lives. Anyone can inspect a spacing value and see that it’s 12px and not 16px, but you can’t know who chose 12px and why.

Strata is a record of decisions: what’s changed, who chose it, whose hand wrote it, and why. Components, Figma files, colors, type, code, screens become projections. Each can be regenerated, replaced, or discarded without losing the design grammar behind them.

An agent that makes a choice on its own is treated as a different event from one that typed out a designer’s decision. Taste cannot fail a build. A build only fails mechanically. Everything else is reported.
