Why now?

China will request a deal on their terms instead of agreeing to any deal that the US will put forward in order for them to agree on this 'proposal'. So it doesn't matter what Sam, Dario and Elon say.

Slowing down is too late and the US has no leverage to get China to agree anyway.

At the same time, some AI companies are preparing for an IPO after achieving "AGI".

I’m not saying China is zero risk, but I am saying that America seems particularly skilled at putting our enemies on this idealized pedestal to justify whatever we’re trying to justify.
