Many to-do apps have a quick-add shortcut: a text field that appears when you trigger it, into which you can type a task. But the task box only knows about the task you're typing - to pick a time, you have to go to another app to check your calendar.
But when you hit ⇧⌘A anywhere, Diurnal overlays your current app with your day — your tasks, Google Calendar meetings and a timeline. You can see that 3-4pm is busy, so you type "call John 4pm" and hit return. The task gets filed under 4pm, and you're back in the app you were in. If you start the line with /cal , it's a Google Calendar event.
Other features:
- ⇧⌘L adds tasks by voice: what you say gets split into tasks. I can say three things and get three tasks.
- Reminders, daily and weekly planning, and a pomodoro timer come in the menu bar.
- Offline, sync across your Macs (you need to sign in to a Diurnal account to sync, but nothing in the app is private)
- The whole thing is free, and you can try it in your browser at diurnal.in without installing anything (it's a desktop app only, though).
