Hi HN! I built this because Fermi questions keep popping up in my brain through the day, and kept noticing that my gut sense of scale was terrible.
The game gives you six questions a day which you answer with a power of ten. The higher the answer, the hardest it is to get right, so the scoring system is more forgiving as the exponential grows.
The code and the questions were both done in collaboration with AI. I kept a living document throughout the day to capture my random questions that would manifest to me, and had Claude fact check the answers and write the explanations. I also created a funny skill for Claude to come up with brand new questions, and to keep entropy high, it fetches a random word from a dictionary or wikipedia to see if it brings any inspiration. I found the resulting prose quite good and engaging.
Technical bits: it's a single HTML file with no framework, no build step for the game and no dependencies. The background is in webgl. There are no cookies, accounts or ads. I used Opus 5.5.
