This bacteria or related strains might be a path to treating human fungal infections (think toes) more efficiently than with oral antifungals (which can cause liver and renal system damage) or phototherapy (lasers). Such human fungal infections have high incidence rates in the elderly population and are notoriously difficult to cure.
