Ideal title that was too long:

My gut tells me that the only reason for "slowing the frontier" is that economists at the labs have told them that the entire economic system will collapse if they eat all knowledge work.

There are many rational reasons to keep them internal: safety, distillation, and regulatory.

Am I way off base here?
