Hello HN, I built this because I wanted to know what's getting a lot of attention in the news, without having to see all the rage that goes with it, and without an ad-driven algorithm telling me what I should be looking at.

There's two separate products being built here:

1. https://news.svpn.com (This Show HN)

This will always be open and free, with open account creation and discussion, including a transparent stats page. Anyone who creates an account here will see an "early access" button for the main app.

2. https://svpn.com/about (Alpha, launching in a few months)

This is a private social network + email service + E2EE DM and Voice + communities and news, the focus is on security, privacy, and getting rid of toxicity and outrage.

Side note: For https://news.svpn.com we're using Jev for auto-moderation and so far it's doing a great job, very fast, very cheap, perfect for putting questionable comments into a review queue.
