After I finished my job as a designer on Audacity 4, I dabbled around in making some web tools/WASM things, until I eventually had the thought: But what if I made a web port of Audacity? How hard could that be? Turns out: Browsers actually are reasonably capable at handling media, and the word robots are lying bastards which can be tamed somewhat by having enough tests.
And thus, Soundscaper exists now, featuring Audacity 4's UI, a bunch of extra features that Audacity doesn't have, and, going full circle, even desktop versions of it. And most importantly, it's owned by a non-profit, so I'll never again have to implement monetization strategies into an open source audio editor.
