That's a bold opinion. Monospace font is used so the code lines up in very neat lines. Though, since we're not writing code by hand anymore, it seems like that could be up for debate. If our smarter tools were able to use variable width characters while still able to line things up in columns, then yeah, we could evolve the terminal.
